Day One - The Start

Ever since we moved from London to California almost a year ago two things very different things have happened. The first is that I have realized that the stereotype of Californians being active and obsessed with good quality food definitely has a kernel of truth to it. The second is that I have chosen to ignore some of that behavior and instead of have enjoyed myself a bit too much. The result is that now I've been putting on weight and trying my best to pretend it's not happening.

I'm not obese or anything like that, but I'm at a point where I have to take a firm hold and commit to getting myself back on track or else! This isn't just to make my clothes stop pinching and to stop hating how I look all the time. It's about realizing that a healthier me is a better me and that can only be a good thing. This is why I have started this blog as a way to keep myself honest about the highs and lows and to hopefully, if anyone ever reads this, to inspire a few others to put down the chips ahoy and take steps towards a self they are happier with.

No grand plans or anything like that. I'm starting small with a two week "clean" eating plan and an attempt to hit the gym 2-3 times a week. I'm using a plan I found on Buzzfeed while at work one day (see the full plan here). Now I'm not a nutritionist nor do I have any background in food management, other then several summer waitress jobs, but a plan with lots of fruits and veggies and not a lot of things I can't pronounce can't be a bad thing. My aim is to get through these two weeks and then try to build off of that with my own clean recipes. Feel free to send me your own favorites!

Today is Day One and the normal comedy of errors has taken place. The Kale smoothie looks nothing like it's supposed to and required more chewing than eating. I've also done a lot of dish washing as part of the prep so my manicure is shot, but so far it has all tasted pretty good and the hubs is onboard so at least I have moral support. Tomorrow I'll post my favorite dish from Day One and try to hit the gym.

Not your traditional Memorial Day grill-fest, but I appreciate you going on this journey with me to a happier, healthier self!
